Costa Rica fishing report November 2017

Just about on cue the fishing has been exactly as we expect for this time of year, Sailfish are being caught in good numbers and there has been many coolers of fresh Mahi-Mahi (Dorado) hitting the docks at the end of the charters. The Mahi-Mahi bite has been crazy this month and there have been many reports of 30 plus fish on full-day charters, and then mix a few Sailfish into those reports and to say the fishing has been excellent is an understatement.

In-shore fishing has improved dramatically this month with the water clearing up making it a lot easier for the fish to see the bait, funny how that works when they can see it they bite. Roosterfish, Snook, and Snapper have all been in and out of the in-shore reports from the past month.

A big Happy Thanksgiving goes out to our American friends as well this month hope you all have a great time with family and friends.

We are starting to see some great deals for the upcoming season for accommodations so if you are looking at one of our packages let us know if you are flexible at all with your dates and we may be able to get you some great rates on an all-inclusive package to take all of the worries about booking everything separate away so you can have a great relaxing fishing holiday.

Costa Rica fishing report October 2017

Welcome to the early stages to the upcoming season and what we are hoping to be another great season of fishing here in Quepos / Manuel Antonio. With some of the fleet still getting the final touches and routine maintenance complete and ready for the rush of fishermen on their way to get into some of the great fishing we have here over the next few months.

Fishing has been pretty steady this month already with some solid reports coming in with Sailfish, Mahi-Mahi (Dorado) and the odd Marlin being caught offshore. In-shore has been a little more hit and miss with the rain and the rivers spilling murky water into the ocean making it harder for the in-shore fishermen.

With the weather starting to clear up that will allow the in-shore fishing to improve greatly, and the offshore fishing will continue to get better as we move into the peak of our season.

Costa Rica fishing report summer 2017

This time of year here in the Quepos / Manuel Antonio area there just isn't the number of reports coming in to get a real good idea of how good the fishing is and what you are missing out on. The summer time is when we get the big schools of Yellow-Fin Tuna moving through and there are the times when the local Captains just wish there was more fishermen around to get out and on the schools.

Offshore bite seemed steady with Sailfish, Marlin and of course Yellow-Fin Tuna just not the numbers you would get when you are here in the peak season, with that being said we did see a couple reports of double digit Sailfish in full-day charters so the fish are still there while you are at home looking ahead at your next winter get away.

Another great reason to come see us in Costa Rica in the summer is the weather and the prices, the weather is almost perfect this time of year as it just isn't quite as hot with a few more evening showers. Being a slower time you can also get some great rates on hotels and rental homes and condos, with less demand for the accommodations the prices tend to be a lot lower than the peak season.

Later in the summer and into September – October we also have an excellent Marlin run, the only drawback is that in these 2 months we tend to get quite a bit more rain and the weather can be less enjoyable. If you are a hardy fisherman who doesn't mind getting wet and want to catch a Marlin this is a great time to head down, just bring some rain gear and get ready to fight with some of the BIG Marlin!

Fishing report for April 2017

Quepos / Manuel Antonio is going to be hopping this month with the World Offshore Championship on its way to town. There is going to be a ton of people heading to the Marina Pez Vela to see the new additions and get into some great fishing. The offshore bite was a little slower this month, not what the anglers heading to us for the Offshore World want to hear but that's fishing right?

In-shore was steady for the past month, not as many big fish but there was still lots of action.

Fishing report for March 2017

Quepos / Manuel Antonio had another great offshore bite for the month of March, Sailfish were hitting hard and fast keeping crews and anglers on their toes. We has a couple of FAD trips this month and they both came back with double digits on Marlin, a few Sailfish and some meat fish to keep the fresh fish fries going.

In-shore fishing around Manuel Antonio was also good for anglers hitting the rocks and river mouths, good Roosterfish numbers, some Snook and Spanish Mackerel were hitting the decks.

Fishing report for February 2017

Another fabulous bite here for the month with Sailfish numbers hitting double digits in almost every offshore charter, a few Marlin also in the mix out there as well. Inshore fishing has been good as well and there have been a few monster Roosterfish caught in the past few weeks putting up some great fights.

If you haven't planned your trip to Quepos yet for the year than now is the time to get down here if February was this good March will be even better.

Costa Rica fishing report January 2017

Happy New Year to all of you and it's time to start off another great month of fishing here in Costa Rica, from offshore, in-shore FAD trips we had it all to start off the year.

Offshore fishing if you were headed out of the Los Suenos Marina, or the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos / Manuel Antonio you were greeted with a fabulous bite. Marlin numbers were up from usual and there was a couple of monsters pushing the 500 pound range released, with lots in the 200 pound range in the mix as well. Sailfishing was as it is usually this time of year and that is hot hot hot with lots of daily reports of sailfish releases in the double digits. Yellow-fin tuna also played into the reports coming out of Quepos with a few monsters 200 plus pounds in the mix, mostly just smaller ones in the 10 – 30 pound range making for some great dinners after charters.

In-shore fishing was a pretty consistent bite out of the Quepos / Manuel Antonio area with quite a few Big Roosterfish mixed in with the smaller ones, Snook were also hitting the reports not any monsters to report of but a few in the 20 plus pound range.

Also a couple of FAD trips to report on one was 3 days 4 nights and the total was 12 Blue Marlin and 2 Sailfish, another was a 2 day 3 night trip that caught 8 Blue Marlin, 1 Stripped Marlin and 3 Sailfish to add into the other species they caught like Snapper, Grouper a few Dorado.

Costa Rica fishing report December 2016

What a month we have had here with a good offshore bite, some BIG Blue Marlin in the area being caught. Sailfish were about average out of Los Suenos and the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos most charters were seeing 5 – 7 Sailfish releases on full Day Charters. Yellow-fin Tuna were also a big part of our reports for December, lots of 30 – 50 pounders and a few passing the 250 pound mark there wasn't a lack of Yellow-fin Tuna hitting dinner tables in the local restaurants.

In-shore fishing was a pretty consistent bite out of the Quepos / Manuel Antonio area with quite a few Big Roosterfish mixed in with the smaller ones, Snook were also hitting the reports not any monsters to report of but a few in the 20 plus pound range.

We hope everyone had a great holiday season and a safe new year's eve, we will see you all next year!

Fishing report for the first week of August

Starting off August here in Quepos / Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica and we have been blessed with a nice consistent bite offshore a report on the first the Reel-in 2 caught 1 Blue Marlin, 3 Sailfish and 5 Yellow-fin Tuna, a couple reports from the 5th with the Reel-In catching 4 Sailfish and 4 Yellow-fin Tuna, another read 1 Blue Marlin 4 Sailfish and 2 Yellow-fin Tuna. Another great week of fishing from the Los Suenos Resort and Marina, Blue and Black Marlin have been in most reports, Sailfish in nearly every report and there was still a few Yellow-fin Tuna in some reports. From the looks of the reports there was also some bottom fishing happening on a few trips some reports were double digit Grouper and Snapper! In-shore there was a good bite with good numbers of Snook, Roosterfish and Jack Crevalle in them.

Good reports coming in from the Flamingo and Tamarindo areas of Costa Rica with a good Blue Marlin bite, Sailfish and Yellow-fin Tuna hitting the deck then the table for the lucky anglers for dinner.

Costa Rica fishing report July 2016

Fishing report for the last week of July

The Marlin bite was back this week with a couple reports coming into the Marina Pez Vela with multiple Marlin, the Reel-in 2 was out on the 21st and caught 1 Marlin, 4 Sailfish and 1 Mahi-Mahi on a full-day offshore charter, they were out again on the 30th and caught 1 Blue Marlin, 1 Sailfish and 5 Yellow-fin Tuna. The best day for them was the 31st when they caught 2 Black Marlin, 2 Sailfish and 1 Mahi-Mahi on the Reel-In 2 fishing out of the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos / Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica.

The Marlin bite was about the same as last week out of Los Suenos with most reports have just single Marlin in them, there was one with 2 Marlin in it, the Sailfish and the Yellow-fin Tuna were still out in abundance for anglers to catch and the Yellow-fin Tuna will fill them up for dinner. A couple of bottom-fishing trips were heard of with lots of Red Snapper and Grouper hitting the decks and then the dinner table after charters got home to the Los Suenos Marina.

Fishing report for the third week of July

The reports from the boats fishing from the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos / Manuel Antonio had the Marlin bite a little slower than the past few weeks, they were still out there just not as plentiful, the Yellow-fin Tuna were still there with the Sailfish and Mahi-Mahi. We did hear of some Snook caught in-shore this week with some Roosterfish and Jack Crevalle.

Los Suenos fishing reports had the same ring with the Marlin bite not as good as the past few weeks but the Sailfish and Yellow-fin Tuna have kept all the anglers on their toes and well fed.

Fishing report for the second week of July

Reports from the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos / Manuel Antonio were pretty steady with Marlin, Sailfish and Yellow-fin Tuna offshore, in-shore thing started to really heat up with a report of 3 Roosterfish and 2 Jack Crevalle on a half-day charter.

Los Suenos reports were still full of Marlin and Yellow-fin Tuna with some Sailfish and Mahi-Mahi, there just wasn't as many multi-species reports you either caught Marlin or Tuna with a sprinkling of Sailfish and Mahi-Mahi. There was an in-shore report that got Jack Crevalle, Spanish Mackerel and some Needlefish.

FAD fishing

Some of the reports coming back in from the long range trips have been truly amazing as they usually are, we are talking 20-30 Marlin a day, with a few Sailfish and some big Yellow-fin Tuna for the dinners on board. For more information about these overnight trips contact us and we can help you get it set up.

Fishing report for the first week of July

Welcome to July and the fishing here in the Quepos / Manuel Antonio area has started off strong with Marlin, Sailfish, Yellow-fin Tuna and Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) on the 7th the Reel-In 2 caught a Marlin, Yellow-fin Tuna and 2 Mahi-Mahi, on the first on the Reel-In they caught 4 Sailfish. In-shore fishing has been good for Roosterfish, Jack Crevalle and a few Snook in the mix of species being caught fishing out of the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos / Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica.

The fishing reports out of Los Suenos have been great to, almost every report was coming in with at least 1 Black or Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Yellow-fin Tuna and Mahi-Mahi for the dinner table later. We didn't see any reports from in-shore fishing this week from Los Suenos so we can't really say how it was I guess you will have to come try your luck fishing in-shore from the Los Suenos Resort and Marina.

Costa Rica fishing report June 2016

Fishing report for the last week of June

Finishing out the month of June fishing reports from Costa Rica have stayed pretty steady offshore with anglers catching prominently Sailfish and Yellow-fin Tuna, what a great Yellow-fin Tuna bite we have had here for the past 6 or 8 weeks, not only were getting double digit numbers common but there were also a few over 100 pounds that were caught. The Sailfish bite has been decent, Mahi-Mahi were also being caught as well as Blue Marlin just not in the numbers that the Sailfish and Yellow-fin Tune were.

Fishing report for the third week of June

Is the month of June ever flying buy, just a few reports from anglers fishing out of the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos / Manuel Antonio all of them headed offshore catching mostly Sailfish and Yellow-fin Tuna, there was a Blue Marlin that teased anglers on one charter but it just wouldn't take the bait.

Los Suenos anglers had the same luck with steady fishing catching Sailfish and Yellow-fin Tuna, let me say that there sure hasn't been a lack of Yellow-fin Tuna hitting the tables for anyone that has been fishing here in the last 6 weeks or so they have been plentiful.

Fishing report for the second week of June

The Tuna gods are still smiling on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica as anglers are catching Yellow-fin Tuna on just about every charter from the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos / Manuel Antonio and the Los Suenos resort and Marina, Sailfish were also plentiful and there was a few Blue Marlin and Wahoo caught offshore. In-shore anglers fishing out of the Marina Pez Vela caught 4 Snook, 1 Snapper, 1 Roosterfish and a few Jack Crevalle.

Fishing report for the first week of June

As we head into the slow season there just aren't that many reports to be had, it's not that the fishing isn't still great there just isn't the anglers around to head out in search of their next fish of a lifetime. Anglers that headed offshore were catching Sailfish and Mahi-Mahi, there was also a couple bottom-fishing trips that yielded some great Grouper and Snapper.

Search – Before going to fishing in a particular area, it is very important to search regarding the area on the internet. You should not completely rely on the marketing material that is provided by the fishing tour company. Try to extract the recent information about that particular area and see whether it is the best time to go in there or not.

Cost – Some of the best fishing operation always get repeat business from a great reputation and their ability to catch fish. Sometimes there are cases where the fishing Charters charge more to the new clients as it becomes a supply and demand issue. It is advisable to be alert and not let them overcharge you. If you are going for fishing with friends then you should hire boat wisely. Refrain from hiring large boat for small group of people and ask questions as to what size of charter boat is required for your group of fishermen.

Weather – After selecting your fishing area make sure you do adequate research on weather of that area. You don’t want to be blown by a hurricane or get drenched in torrential rains while fishing. So, proper research of the weather is very vital for good fishing. Fortunately in Quepos Mar1 Sport Fishing don't have this problem in the Quepos, Costa Rica area, however the Guanacaste Area does get windy certain times of the year.
